Stacey and John 12-19-09

We had a ball helping Stacey and John plan their Christmastime wedding. Stacey was one of the kindest, easy-going bride’s we have ever seen, and she and John adore each other. The couple met at a December wedding just two years earlier and quickly fell in love. When it came time to plan their own wedding they decided it would be fitting to have a December wedding themselves. The formal southern affair featured the largest wedding party we have worked with, fabulous food and a whole lot of dancing. Stacey and John were married at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in downtown Atlanta, the very same church where her grandparents wed. A festive reception followed at The Capital City Club in downtown Atlanta where guests danced the night away to the sounds of Papa Sol. I’m not sure I have ever seen a Bride and Groom dance as much as they did. It was a magical night for a magical couple and we were so thrilled to be involved and make new friends. We wish Stacey and John (and Scout) all the best as they make their new home together in Birmingham! Below are some images captured by the amazing Laura Negri Photography.

As the hours dwindle in the first decade of this millennium I have been collecting my best memories and accomplishments from the 2000’s. Here goes and here’s to topping this list in the 2010’s!

graduated college. backpacked through europe. witnessed fsu win a national championship. moved to atlanta. became an event planner. successfully lived with my brother.got my dream job. became an american. attended thirty weddings..as a guest. fell in love with weddings. started my own business. planned my first wedding. bought a home. became one of the youngest CSEP's ever. caught a marlin. visited russia. made the best friends. went salmon fishing in alaska. won two allie awards. went to the kentucky derby. started this blog. served on the board of ISES. planned an airshow. laughed till it hurt. never looked back.

Here is to all the things I hope to accomplish in the next ten years and never looking back! I wish the same for each of you.

Once in A Blue Moon New Year's

Did you know that a blue moon is defined as the second full moon in a calendar month? It happens once every two years, hence the expression "once in a blue moon." There will be a blue moon this New Year's Eve!! This rare combination of events takes place about once every 20 years.

I think that is cause for extra celebration! Why don't you host a Blue Moon New Year's Eve!

We are hosting one! All decor, favors and balloon drop will be in shades of blue and silver. Guests will sip Blue Moon Beer and a signature BlueMoontini! The DJ will play special "Blue" Songs throughout the evening such as "Blue Suede Shoes, Blue Moon and Blue Skies". At midnight we will serve Moon Pies and invite guests outside to ring in the New Year with fireworks and a view of the Blue Moon!

This post has nothing to do with weddings, trends, or parties. Its an excerpt from an email from my brother Mike who is currently serving on a medical mission in Tanzania. The message in his story really hit me. As Southerners we think that what we offer is "hospitality", it sure pales in comparison to the Tanzanian way.

"Glasses"

I’ve been in Africa for over two weeks now and am starting to pick up nuances into the culture and people that are quite telling. I’ve learned that the average income for a family of four in Mwaanza is $100 US dollars per month. The cost of goods here is cheaper, but not significantly enough to offset how little money this is. Meat for dinner is a rarity and the majority of the home meals consist of a mashed corn dish similar to maize paired with a sautéed sweet potato.Most people work six to seven days per week. Our housekeepers who clean, do laundry and cook our lunch and dinner work all seven days taking only Saturday afternoon off. Despite this schedule, they sing all day long and never stop smiling. As I’m writing this now, Marina, out housekeeper is sweeping and singing a beautiful melody that is competing with the chirping birds outside – very Snow White. Very Tanzanian.The cab drivers give you their cell phones so you can text them to pick you up no matter what time of day or night. I’ve been using a man named Emmanuel who responds to each ride request with a cheerful text that says, “Be right there doc.” When he drops us of somewhere, such as the market or a restaurant, he arranges a time to pick us up and insists that we don’t pay for the first leg until he brings us home safely later. Our tailor Moosa won’t accept payment until the clothes fit just right. He happily walks the two miles back home to make the alterations and arranges a time at our convenience to bring them back. No questions. No attitude. When we asked Moses if we could pay for a cooking lesson, he said he and his wife would be honored to cook for us, and refused any discussion of a possible payment. When Namrata’s luggage got taken by mistake, the man at the airport office in the Dar Es Salaam airport, let us into his office, offered us tea, allowed us to use his phone to call long distance, gave Namrata a fifty dollar shopping card, arranged for transport to a clothing shop, called the Bugando medical center housing to let them know we’d be late in Swahili, and arranged for his friend to pick us up at the airport. He then asked if we liked Obama and if we thought the healthcare plan would go through. Can you imagine this kind of service back home? It’s almost un-American. Apparently it’s very Tanzanian.The word for thank you in Swahili is Asante. When you say it to someone here, they respond Asante Kuchiku which literally means “thank you for saying thank you.” This is like sending someone a thank you card for their thank you card. Unnecessarily polite. Very Tanzanian.So much of what is difficult to adjust to here revolves around its inconvenience to me: power outages leading to cold showers, no internet, phone service interruptions, hot days, lab tests that take days at the hospital. The Tazanians don’t see it that way. They are grateful for the days there are warm showers and thankful for the occasional access to slow internet that allows them to keep in touch with their families. They don’t resent a hot day – in fact, the hottest day makes it all the easier to appreciate a cool breeze. They are proud of their hospital being the most modern around, and while they acknowledge that they need to continue moving forward, they are pleased to be able to work with what they have. I am certain, that despite the fact the Tanzanians have so much less, they are happier then we are on average back home. They don’t complain about what they don’t have; they praise God for what they’ve been given. The streets are filled with song and dance at night. The kids laugh and play games running home from school. Men and women hold hands in the street. I think it’s time for a paradigm shift back home don’t you?We have all come to realize how true the cliché “you don’t know what it’s got until it’s gone” means here. It’s a daily, almost tangible, feeling. But at first this feeling was about voids created by the luxuries we left behind. But I’ve learned that standards can change. On our three days on Safari we would have given anything for a cold shower, something we’d been complaining about just days before. Luxury was redefined by circumstance. Now I’m starting to realize as well that not knowing what you’ve got until it’s gone is just as applicable to bad things. I didn’t realize how stressed I was back home until I noticed it wasn’t there anymore here. Didn’t notice how short tempered I could be until all things became relative here and I felt my fuse lengthen. I had a friend who told me she never knew she had poor vision until the first day she wore glasses. She recalls noticing for the first time that the tops of trees were pointed and said she remembers feeling robbed by her first seven years of poor vision. I may have arrived here a foreigner, probably the easiest to identify muzungu in the town, but one thing is for certain. I plan to leave with a touch of Tanzanian. This experience has been my glasses.

As a wedding planner it is my job to notice every tiny detail to make things perfect. My latest obsession and hang-up (literally), are the hangers that bridal gowns come on. Nearly every bride wants the "dress shot"; you know the one were the gown hangs from the door, or an armoire just before she puts it on. These shots are beautiful, and gives everyone a chance to see all the details of the gown in all of her glory and there it sits on some cheap-o plastic hanger. You may think I am a bit Joan Crawford-esque by obsessing over this detail, but that’s why I do what I do!

I’ve found some great alternatives on Esty.com that would make a great keepsake for any bride. Check out HollySews shop and KimGrantInk for great ideas! Not only will the photos look great and memorable, but the gown can rest on this pretty hanger forever.

Remember the days you would get your shoes dyed for prom and there were only three of four selections at your local Bakers store? Well as the saying goes "We've come a long way baby!"

Dyeables are back and not just for prom or weddings! One of my clients bought the most gorgeous pair of Stuart Weitzman shoes for her wedding day (below) and is planning on dying them a fun hot color to spice up a black dress after the wedding!

I loved that idea so I hit up My Glass Slipper and perused some of their adorable collections from Kate Spade, Stuart Weitzman and Bagdley Mischka. I love them all!

Arnold Palmer Station

Lately my travels have brought me to a lot of different events, hosted by different people all over the Southeast. What I love about going to such events is all the great and different ideas the hostesses have that I can come away with and share with all of you!

At a shower last weekend in Louisiana the girls created this simply charming Arnold Palmer station. If you aren't familiar with the drink it was created by the legendary golfer and its half lemonade and half iced tea.

They took the drink one step further by freezing lemon sorbet in a large bowl with sliced lemons. At the station guests filled their glasses with the concoction of tea and lemonade, added a spring of fresh mint (straight from their garden) and a scoop of lemon sorbet.

Such a great treat, especially for an afternoon shower in the late summer. It was simple and classy and just plain delicious! I'd love to create a twist on the Mint Julep with a station like this!

I played around with it below. I have a client planning a June wedding that will be tented on the Tennis court at her parent's home. Late Summer Lovin'

My favorite part of late summer in Atlanta is the vibrant blooming Crape Myrtle trees you see everywhere. They grace even the sides of the highway and make the commute on 285 seem bearable. I cam across this image of a wedding shot by Regetis and adored how the couple played upon the blooming Crape Myrtles to incorporate their wedding colors and use nature's beauty as part of their wedding decor. Now that's is going green!

Centerpiece Favors

I attended a wedding shower for a dear friend on Saturday and the hostess had a clever idea that Incorporated the table decor and favor. A cluster of small potted plants (I believe these are either white violets or periwinkle) served as a runner down the center of each estate table. The pot was tied with an organza bow and a pick in each plant had a photo of the couple adorning each side. At the end of the shower each guest got to take a plant home. It was adorable, affordable and a huge hit with all of the guests!

Bridal Bar Grand Opening

It was the wedding fete of the year as the Bridal Bar Atlanta announced its southern debut in front of 900 guests! That's right, nearly one thousand brides and wedding professionals turned out to tour the studio and sample specialties of the preferred vendors. It was an amazing feat to pull off and I couldn't begin to thank everyone who made it happen. Big props to LeeBrant Jewelry store for hosting us in their magnificent space. I'll be posting photos as they surface from the amazing Bridal Bar photographers that were on hand. Its in the Cards!

For those that know me or have previously seen my posts, I am a huge proponent of hand-written notes and cards. The digital age has allowed it to take mere seconds to send someone a birthday greeting or well wish via text, email or social media outlet. Facebook has eliminated some people’s desire to send Christmas cards with updates and photos of their families. I’ve noticed a great decline the past years in the amount of birthday greetings and Christmas cards I have received in the mail. It’s made those that do come even more special, but I do miss the days of lots of lovely cards flowing in mid June. Two of my dear friends who live far away from me, still take the time to send cards and notes in the mail for no reason whatsoever and it makes me feel so special and sparks my desire to keep up our written correspondence. There is nothing like coming home to a bright pretty envelope in the mail stuffed between all of your bills.
This week alone I have written or sent three cards. All for various reasons: Get Well, Sympathy, Engagement, and Wedding wishes.
How do I have time for this you ask?

Simple: Cards in a Box.
Cards in a Box is a pretty box that holds 25-30 different and unique greetings for every occasion. The cards alone are a work of art with personality, embellishments and glitter. From children’s birthdays to well wishes, to blank friendship cards, each box has enough cards to get you through all of life’s occasions! The boxes are even cute enough to re-use for gift giving when empty. I keep 2 boxes of these on hand in a closet at all times. When I hear someone just had surgery, I head to the closet for a cute Get Well card and write a heartfelt note and send it on its way. I make every effort to send the card in a timely manner as I feel it makes even more of an impression on the recipient to receive a card mere days after having a baby or getting engaged.

Finding these boxes is quite a challenge, I usually find mine at Costco, who debuts a new series each year. They go quickly, so stock up while you can! I also found some at Barnes and Noble online HERE. I honestly do not think I would ever be so diligent about sending greetings if I had to stop at the local Hallmark each time someone I loved deserved a card.
When I do purchase cards at a store for let’s say Mother’s of Father’s Day, I try to stock up on any other cards I may need for the next month or so, even buying some that I just like and know eventually will find a recipient.

So I challenge you to start by sending one card a month for a friend, colleague or family member that could use some sunshine in their mailbox. I hate to see this form of communication dying and plan on keeping up with it for as long as I can.

I need to take a break today and cherish my sweet, thoughtful, patient and kind dad. There is no one like him and I am so lucky to be his only little girl. The way he looks at and treats my mom after 34 years makes my heart swell! Dad would bring me a toasted bagel in bed every Saturday morning and sing "Hush little baby" when I was born. Not everyone is lucky enough to have a dad like mine and today I wish him the Best Father's Day ever! Wish I could be in Florida to celebrate with him. Love you Dad!

Another thing I love to notice on my trips is different style doorways. I find them so intriguing, often wondering where they lead and how old the door may be. I captured several unique doorways on my trip. Some led to churches, some led to gardens and others were a mystery. Each door is unique and inspiring.

The flower markets on each corner, the window boxes of flowers adorning homes and restaurants, the sporadic gardens throughout the city, I just love stumbling across the bright colors. Vacation Inspiration

I’ve just returned from an amazing two week vacation with my family to Europe and Russia. In our travels we visited 8 countries, 10 churches and 8 museums. From Paris to St. Petersburg I was awed at the inspiring vistas, landscapes, and historic sites. I plan on sharing images from my travels that I find relate to weddings and events, or inspire me to incorporate them into my next project. I also learned about different wedding traditions and styles across Europe.

Lovely Lashes!

I have serious lash envy, you know those people who just have thick, beautiful, long and fluttery lashes? Hate them! Well, not really, but I have always been very envious of those gifted gals. I've tried almost EVERY mascara on the market in attempt to plump and lengthen my feeble lashes. Finally I was introduced to Latisse. Its a product by prescription only (and FDA Approved) that promises, thicker, longer and darker lashes. The only problem is it takes 8 Weeks to begin to notice your longer lashes, but I tell you girls its working! Both my mom and my best friend from childhood (who has eyelashes so long they cross at the tips) emailed me after I sent out some recent photographs to ask if I had fake lashes on, SCORE!

So all you brides out there, if you have at least 8 weeks before your big day head to your dermatologist and ask for Latisse. After all you must be able to bat your lashes at your new hubby on your big day!

For years I have received the Paper Source catalogue but I had yet to visit a store in person. Paper Source opened in the Virginia-Highland section of Atlanta and its just a dream! They have a gorgeous selection of stationary, wrapping paper and little gifts. An entire section devoted to invitations that would make any DIYer swoon! They also offer classes and workshops. Things I learned from Mom

With Mother's Day around the corner I thought I'd share some things I learned from my mother that I apply to my business and life. Love you Mom!

Thank You Notes

My mom would make us sit down the day after Christmas or our Birthday and hand write thank you's to all our relatives. Its a simple gesture that means so much to people. I am still a huge fan of hand written gratitude notes. In the days of e-mail and texting, hand-written notes seem few and far between. I receive many accolades from people who get my notes: prospective clients, past clients, vendors who go out of their way....I urge you to make this a habit in your personal and professional areas. The sooner you get the note in the mail, the more impact it makes as well. The person receiving the note feels that you were so happy and grateful you couldn't wait to let them know!

Dress to Impress

Mom makes it a habit to always dress nice even for trips to the grocery store. You never know who you will see and it pays to always look nice. She especially feels its nice to dress up when you travel at the airport. Often you see people in sweat pants and flip flops but you always notice the lady dressed to the nines and wonder "where is SHE going?". Wouldn't you like for people to say that about you?

Keep the Table Set

Mom keeps her dining room table set as though a dinner party could break-out at any moment. This is something I've done at my house too. I rarely have time to sit and eat at the dinner table, but it might as well look like I am about to host a fabulous fete at any time right? Of course we change the tablescapes with the holidays, Christmas, Thanksgiving, Easter etc. To that note she uses her fine Crystal and China regularly. Even a glass of iced water seems nicer sipping from a crystal flute. Life is too short not to celebrate and use your nice things!

Derby Wrap-Up

Our trip to the 135th annual Kentucky Derby was amazing. It was so fun getting dolled-up and sporting a hat, and observing all the spectators bedecked in seersucker, hats, heels and pearls. We tasted juleps, bet on horses met people from all over the country, including a bachelor party where the bachelor’s wedding planner was none other than Mindy Weiss, (what can I say I’m always trying to network!)

One of the highlights we witnessed as we walked up to Churchill Downs was this adorable couple getting engaged. We walked up at the perfect time has he was down on one knee near a bed of roses. Congratulations to the precious couple!

With the Run for the Roses just around the corner I thought I'd share some images from the Kentucky Derby party I planned last year. This annual outdoor concert for a private country club featured a new twist in 2008 as the event fell on Derby Day. Guests came bedecked in party hats and decorated their dining tables to the nines! I hosted a contest for best decorated table, best hat, and best dressed couple. Prizes were furnished by Woodford Reserve, the official bourbon of the Kentucky Derby!

The creative touches were abound tying in all things Derby :: Roses, Bourbon, Hats, Horses, Juleps oh My!
I'm taking my first trip to the real deal Kentucky Derby this year so I will be sure to update on inspiration I find at Churchill Downs on Derby Day.

I've seen several features of Derby-Themed weddings and events and they are just so simply Southern!

Fresh Flower Fridays

I adore fresh flowers, who doesn't? In my dream world I'd have them on my desk and around my house every week. I do however treat myself to flowers on Fridays when I will be able to enjoy them the entire weekend (i.e. not working all weekend or out of town). I've dubbed them "Fresh Flower Fridays". My favorite place to go is Trader Joes since its not only on my way home, they sell great (cheap) wine that I often purchase to accompany my flowers. I know how romantic of myself right?

TJ's has pre-made bouquets as well as seasonal flowers all under $10! Bunches of tulips are only $4.99! This week I went in to pick up some spring buds and was overjoyed to find two of my very very favorite blooms for sale, Ranunculus and Anemones both for $6.99 a bunch! These flowers are rare to find at even a whole foods or specialty store, let alone for this price. So I stocked up and have lots of neat spring arrangements around the house. Trader Joes is a great place to pick up flowers for your Easter dinner! Check out their site to find a location near you!

Finally! The opulent hotel has opened its doors on the corner of the famed Peachtree Street and West Paces Ferry. The St. Regis Atlanta opened its doors on Tuesday. The lovely Julia McKelvey, catering manager gave me a tour of a sample guest room before the completion of the hotel and it was just A-mazing! The ballroom is going to be the epitome of luxury for weddings and events.

An Atlanta spring tradition comes to the St. Regis:
The Atlanta Symphony Associates will hold the 2009 Decorators’ Show House & Gardens at The St. Regis Residences, April 18 through Sunday, May 10. To celebrate the fundraiser’s 39th year, The St. Regis Atlanta will christen its sword on Saturday by sabering a magnum of Veuve Clicquot, a gift from Louis Vuitton Moet Hennessy, in a dramatic celebration.

Paces 88, the restaurant on-site will be the place to be seen. Visitors to the Show House can dine at Paces 88. Every lunch guest will receive a special take-home package of brownies with fleur de sel, a specialty of Pastry Chef Ryan Wells. As a special offering, Sunday diners can indulge in Bloody Marys and Bellinis on the restaurant’s Veranda. The rumor is the Bloody Marys are the best in the South, I can't wait to try one!

Renowned Atlanta florist John Grady Burns will be hosting a book signing on Saturday May 9 at the showhouse. Be sure to be the first to snag a copy of his book : Personally Yours, flowers for weddings, parties and events.

Last night was ISES Atlanta's monthly networking event held at Park Tavern overlooking Piedmont park and the lovely Atlanta skyline! The program's committee took a spin on the TV show "What Not To Wear" and themed the entire event on fashion. The event featured crafty decor from J.Patrick designs and a presentation by an image consultant. The finale was a fashion show featuring several ISES members, including yours truly! We modeled fashions from Macy's and the Dress Barn that were business-appropriate and could also transition from day to evening. It was so much fun walking the runway and twirling about with all my ISES friends and colleagues sitting in the front row! I saw this concept in San Diego at The Special Event and thought it would be such a fun idea for a wedding. As the night closes or even as the "after-party" begins you can serve these treats to your guests. Party Donuts in San Diego has it down to a science. They offer the traditional mini donut interactive station, a donut bar where you can top your own donuts with a variety of icings and sprinkles, and the decadent ice cream and donuts station.

Want to add your special flair? The paper bags the hot little treats come in can be printed with your wedding motif, how fun!

Getting married in the current economy has no doubt hindered many a bride’s "dream wedding" plans. I’ve found that even with the clients that still may have the funds to produce and over-the-top event, are scaling back. We are all trying to find ways and ideas to help brides create the day they have longed for less. A few great ideas that I have come across, I thought I’d pass along, enjoy!

Tip # 3 Once Wed

Do you have champagne wishes for a dress but a budget for club soda? Then head on over to Once Wed, a truly genius site based here in Atlanta. Once Wed features designer dresses for sale at a fraction of the cost. Some have been worn, others are samples and some are brand-spakin' new. Think Monique Lhuillier, Oscar de la Renta, Angel Sanchez and more!

On the flip side, if you "over-indulged" in purchasing your wedding dress and are looking to re-coop some of the cost during these tough times you can list your dress for sale here too.

I have to give all the credit to my very creative friend, Melissa (check out her blog here) in California for this next tip for the Recessionista Bride.

When Melissa got engaged, her friend Elizabeth threw an unforgettable party that was too good not to share. Elizabeth invited the bride’s girlfriends and family members over for champagne and tea sandwiches and asked them to bring their wedding gown. The ladies arrived laden with gowns spanning five generations.

For fun, Melissa donned the gowns her mom and future mother-in-law wore on their wedding day, something that was very special to the bride. Melissa also modeled gowns of her fiancees two sisters, one of the gowns was purchased in Paris, how chic!

Several other designer gowns of girlfriend’s and coworkers were sported by the bride making the final decision a very difficult one. Tune into the next post to see which one she chose!

Host your own Recycled Dress Party. Even if you don’t find the dress of your dreams how fun would it be to model gowns from different eras, especially ones worn by close family. If you are fortunate enough to score a winning gown, all the more money to put towards the dazzling shoes!

To Knot or To Not

A funny thing happened as I was chatting with a caterer friend of mine yesterday. He said "Are you going to the "knot" party at the W on Thursday?" to which I replied "Yes I am going to The "NOT" party at the W ,but its on Sunday". This resulted in a major dialogue of "whose on first" type banter. We finally realized there are two big wedding industry events this week at the same venue.

1) The Knot is hosting an event on Thursday at the W Buckhead

2) The NOT Wedding is happening on Sunday at the same place.

Confused yet? So was I, but I'll be attending both Knot and Not events and Hope to have lots of fabulous things to share next week!

I read about the coolest concept in my InStyle Magazine this month! You can go to this site and send friends a drink for different occasions. Say your BFF just got engaged but lives in NYC, you can send her a glass (or 2) of champagne to toast the occasion! She gets and email saying you've sent her a drink and registers it with the site GiveReal.com and then can go on the town and use the credit at any place that takes credit cards! Cute idea if you want to celebrate a friend's birthday or other event but can't be there in person! There are loads of different drinks available to send!

P.S. My birthday is June 12 and I enjoy prosecco, and a good chardonnay! :)

Tomorrow morning the annual Filene's Basement "Running of the Brides" descends on Atlanta. Girls will camp overnight outside the Buckhead store front in hopes of snagging their dream gown for hundreds, often thousands less than retail price.

I attended this phenomenon the very first time it came to Atlanta. I was the MOH in my childhood friends wedding and we thought it would be fun to see what all of the hype was about. It was pure insanity, we were the first people through the doors and within seconds every dress on the racks were being tossed, traded and strewn about! Mountains of tulle and taffeta paired with mother's screaming "I need a size 8 strapless, fit and flare". Needless to say we did not leave with a gown.

My advice? If you have the morning to take off work and go for the fun of it, I say do it. But don't expect to find a dress. I hate to be Debbie Downer but these dresses are shipped from city to city, thrown all all over the stores, and tried on by hundreds of people. All the dresses I saw were losing their beading, stained and some even torn.

Finding your wedding dress is such a magical moment that should involve twirling on a pedestal surrounded by mirrors with your mom tearing up at the sight of you. Not having a line of screaming brides waiting to rip the gown off you so they can have it too. Happy Running!

Sunday night I attended the 15th annual Allie Awards an event that honors Atlanta's best event professionals over a variety of categories. While I was not personally nominated, one of my events won for Best Use of Decorative Linens. Cheerio!

If you know me, you know that I am totally in love and obsessed with St. Patrick's day, have been since high school. Living in Atlanta, its the first time people come out of hibernation from winter and there is always something fun to do and a great excuse to entertain. I just LOVE it!

Last year I had a St. Patty's themed pot-luck party with my supper club. Rather than bringing Irish food which no one seems to like, I asked everyone to bring something green to eat! We had pesto pasta, salads, apple martinis...the menu was a tad eclectic but it was super fun! I have a lot of great St. Patricks decor I've picked up over the years at Home Goods and such, but I just HAD to share the McGenius and budget-friendly ideas from Robyn over at Mix Mingle Glow came up with for St. Patricks Tablecsapes. A Snowy Surprise

I've been working on a project for a few weeks that has been so fun, but since it was a surprise to the guest of honor I didn't want to give anything away. Its often so sad for me to say goodbye to a couple and family after working with them for nearly a year on their wedding. The father of one of my very special past weddings contacted me to help throw a Surprise 50th birthday for his lovely wife, and I jumped at the chance to be involved with the great family again. The task was daunting considering the 4 week lead time and printed invitations a "must", but together we worked to plan a grand fiesta at an upscale Mexican bistro. I was able to pull together a lot of the fantastic vendors that worked on the wedding to create a laid-back and fun event.

Then the snow came, the morning of the party Atlanta received buckets and buckets of snow. I usually take great delight in this being a Floridian but knowing how Atlantans generally freak out in the snow I was concerned about guests and vendors cancelling left and right. I was also worried that it may be difficult to lure the birthday girl out to dinner in the snow. However, despite a few canceled guests everyone made the trek and the birthday girl was totally floored. It was such a wonderful event I will share photos and vendor information with you soon.

I am a cookie monster, what can I say? So when I was at the Atlanta Magazine "Best of Atlanta Party" last week and came upon The Cookie Studio's booth, I was in heaven. The problem was which one do I try? Chocolate Chip, Sugar, Oatmeal Raisin they all looked so delicious! My friend and I shared a few different varieties and they were to die for, now we see why they were named "Best cookie in Atlanta"

What is even sweeter? The cookies are made with only natural ingredients and a portion of the proceeds go to the Atlanta Day Shelter for Women and Children.

Imagine my delight when she asked me to walk the red carpet and be a guest at her table! So at the eleventh hour my team decided to enter an award for this year's Allies. The Allie Awards is presented by the Atlanta Chapters of ISES and NACE for the best in the year's events. I'll be working like crazy to pull an entry together by Tuesday, but hope that the event will get chosen in its category, I'll keep you posted! I've been fortunate to be nominated three times and won once let's hope I get lucky in 09!

Going Bananas!

Good things come in pretty packages! The highlight of The Wedding Lunch for me is always looking at and tasting dessert, especially if its Wedding Cake! This year was far and beyond the best. I promised myself I'd just have a "teeny taste", of what was tucked behind the fondant.

Well low and behold if it wasn't two layers of Banana Bread, sandwiching chocolate ganache!

It was heaven, and what a genius idea!!! I'm dying to credit the pastry chef being this little gem so if you know who it is, please let me know. Each table got a different dessert and while the dessert companies were credited on the program, it didn't differentiate whose was whose. Needless to say, my "teeny taste" equaled an empty fondant shell by the end. I definitely went bananas for this fun twist on a wedding cake!
